In his room, Carlos threw himself onto his bed.
Dad came to the door and said, “Hi, Carlos. How was school?”
“Third grade is a lot of work, Dad,” said Carlos.
“You can rest,” Dad said, “and then please do your homework and pick up your things.”
OK, Dad,” replied Carlos.
“And please clean your side of this room. It's a mess, isn't it?”
Yes, Dad,” said Carlos.
When Dora came home, she almost tripped over the skateboard that Carlos had dropped in the hallway.
“Carlos, your skateboard is in the way!Pick up all your things now,” Mom called out.“I like our house to look nice and clean.”
“Sorry, Mom!” Carlos said.“I'll do it when I get off the phone.I'm talking to a friend about my homework.”
Mom looked at Dad, and they both shook their heads.
At bedtime Carlos still had not picked up his things.
Dora thought, “I'll teach him a lesson.”
