"Why do you call it 'Nam?" Bill asked.
"That's soldier talk. Soldiers have their own names for things.
We said 'VC' for Viet Cong, people in South Vietnam who fought for the Communists.
The VC were farmers during the day and fighters at night.
It was real hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys." "When were you in Vietnam?"
"My first tour of duty was in 1968. Each tour lasted a year.
I didn't stay in Vietnam for the whole tour, though.
