Helping Drivers See Helping Drivers See Mary Anderson was an inventor. She lived about 100 years ago. Back then, when it rained or snowed, drivers had to get out of their cars to clean their windows. Mary had a great idea. She invented a new way to clean car windows. It was a rubber blade that swung back and forth across the window. The blade scraped off water and snow. This blade was the first windshield wiper. It worked like the wipers on cars do today. But it did not move by itself.
