Chapter 1 A Good Idea
All the neighbors on Ash Street had a meeting.
They wanted to make the street a nicer place to live.
"Let's plant a garden in the empty lot," said Mr. Cash.
"That will be a lot of work," said Chad's mom.
"We can do the work together," said Mr. Cash.
"Then it will not be too hard."
"We can share the work and the things that we grow," said Kath.
"That's a good idea!" said Chad.
The next day, everyone went to the lot.
What a mess it was!
It was full of trash and rocks and weeds.
"Wow, there is a lot to do!
Let's dig in!" said Mr. Cash.
First, everyone picked up the trash and put it in bags.
Next, they pulled thick weeds.
Then, they cleared away rocks.
Mr. Cash used his shovel to dig a path.
It was hard work.
But soon the lot was cleaned up.
Chapter 2 Time to Plant
It was time to buy seeds to plant.
Kath, Chad, and Chad's mom went to the garden shop.
"I want to plant watermelon," said Chad.
"I'm going to grow corn," said Kath.
Kath and Chad got lots of seeds.
"I want to plant tomatoes," said Ms. Lopez.
"And I'll take the beans," said Mr. Smith.
"I love squash!" said Mr. Cash.
