Chapter 1 The Visit
Nell lived in a big city.
Her cousins lived in the country.
She had gone to see them last year.
But this summer, she was going to stay with them.
Nell was so excited.
Her dad drove for a long time.
Nell and her mom looked out the window.
There was a bright blue sky as far as Nell could see.
Every once in a while,
they passed cows grazing in low grasses.
Finally they arrived.
“Nell!” cried Susie.
She ran to greet her young cousin.
“I'm so happy to see you again.
It has been such a long time!”
So many relatives came to greet Nell and her parents.
Everyone stayed up late talking, eating, and talking some more.
In the morning, Nell's parents left.
Nell knew she would miss them.
She promised to send them e-mails.
Nell and her cousins played baseball.
Then she and Susie walked back together.
“Where are all the butterflies?” Nell asked.
Nell remembered seeing so many the year before.
