Chapter 1 Party Plans
My name is Benny and I want to be a chef.I like to use my cooking skills. I wanted to cook for Grandma's birthday party.
I said, "Please, Mom, let me help with Grandma's birthday lunch.My help will save you a lot of time."
Mom said, "There's a lot to do, Benny."
I said, "I could write a shopping list. Dad and I could go to the grocery store."
Mom said, "No, I will do it. You can make a present for Grandma."
My heart sank. I am great at cooking, but I am not so good at making things.I once tried to make Mom a present. It was a mess.I was too embarrassed to give it to her. I threw it in the trash.
At night I started to make a card for Grandma.Grandma loves food, so I drew a picture of a cake on the front of the card.But the cake did not look delicious.Inside the card I wrote a message for Grandma.But then I made a spelling mistake.
The card was not as good as I had hoped.
Then I had an idea. I cut out a picture from a magazine and glued it to the front of the card.Inside the card I wrote out my own recipe for a cake.The recipe had a special ingredient in it.
"Grandma will love it!" I thought.
Chapter 2 The Right Ingredients
On Saturday morning Mom was very busy."Dad will have to go to the store to buy the ingredients for Grandma's lunch and cake," she said.
"Can I go with him?" I asked.
Mom said, "I think you should stay home and finish your present for Grandma."
I said, "It is done! Grandma will see that I have special talents."
