Tomas realized that lots of the people living in his neighborhood came from different countries,
and just like his family, they missed the food and culture of their homelands.
He thought about the habanero peppers ripening in the kitchen window box at home, and he knew he was lucky.
They weren't allowed to have pets in his apartment building,
but there was no rule to prevent his mother from growing her plants.
