Chapter 2 Coyote and the Giant
One day Coyote went out for a walk.He saw an old woman sitting on a rock by the side of the road."Do you know where I can find an adventure?" he asked her.
The woman lifted up her head and peered at the confident Coyote.Then she said, "I know there's a giant who lives in a cave.He is bigger than all the other giants. And he kills anyone who comes in his path."
Coyote boasted, "I'd like to see this giant. I'm sure I could beat him."
The woman shook her head and said, "He's bigger than you think!"
Coyote laughed. "Who cares? I will have some fun. Tell me where I can find this giant."The woman used a stick to draw a map in the dirt on the ground.She showed him where to go. Coyote thanked her and started on his way.
Coyote hummed a tune as he walked. He thought about how he would attack the giant.He saw a sharp rock and picked it up with his teeth.
"This will be good to hit the giant over the head with and knock him out," Coyote thought to himself.But as he walked carrying the rock, his jaw grew tired.Soon he needed to put the rock on the ground and rest.He realized he couldn't use the rock as a weapon.He would have to fight the giant some other way.
Coyote continued walking until he found a stick that had fallen on the road.The stick was strong and could be used as a club.It was lighter than the rock, so he could carry it. Finding the stick put Coyote in a good mood.He skipped along the road until it turned into a narrow path that led straight to a cave. Coyote decided to go in.
Coyote had not walked far into the cave when his foot kicked something. He heard a sudden yell.
"Hey! Watch where you're going!" cried a woman's voice from the darkness.
Coyote looked down and dropped his stick.As his eyes adjusted to the lack of light, he saw a mysterious woman on the ground."Who are you?" Coyote asked the woman. "What are you doing in this cave?"
The woman coughed and said, "I am trapped. I have been in this cave for days."
Coyote, who could be nice when he felt like it, said, "Oh, I see.Well, I'm going to find the giant that lives in this cave and then I will help you get out.It won't take me long. You know where the giant is hiding in the cave?"
