Kevin told Jack about his trouble remembering answers to certain math problems.
"That's as easy as pumpkin pie, my friend," Jack replied.
Kevin went home and gave his mother the berries and went to help his father in the garden."Have you ever heard of a boy named Jack who is the part of the mountains?" he asked.
"Yes, I have heard many tales about a mountain boy," his father answered."Sometimes strange things happened to him in the stories."
Kevin told him what had happened. His father listened carefully."I suppose it's possible that you met the mountain boy," he admitted."When you're kind to animals, good luck often comes your way."
Kevin was still thinking about Jack as he finished his chores.Kara passed by, carrying two buckets of goat's milk."Are you ready for today's contest?" she asked him.
"I am," Kevin agreed. Kara put down her buckets.She found a stick and pointed it at the dirt, getting ready to write.Kevin picked the number four. Kara wrote in the dirt: 4+5=?
Kevin instantly said that the correct answer was 9.Kara's jaw dropped in surprise."That's right," she said. "You win. How did you know?"
