One Saturday David and his sister Julia wanted to cook something for dinner.
They put on their aprons and sat at the kitchen table.
They looked through a cookbook.
“What do you want to make?” Julia asked.
“Let's make corn bread!” said David.
“Isn't this the recipe?”
Corn Bread
You will need
1¼ (one and one quarter) cups flour; ¾ (three quarter)cup cornmeal; ¼cup sugar;
2 tablespoons baking powder; ½ teaspoon salt;
1cup milk; ¼ cup oil; 1 egg
Julia put milk, eggs, and salt on the table.David got the flour, sugar, and cornmeal.
David looked at the flour.“We need more flour!” he said.
Julia looked at the sugar.“We need more sugar!” she said.
“How will we make the corn bread?” asked David.
David and Julia went next door and rang the doorbell.
Mrs. Lopez answered.
“We're making corn bread for dinner,” David said.
“Do you have any flour?”
Mrs. Lopez gave them some flour, but she did not have enough.
“You'll save some corn bread for my family, won't you?” Mrs. Lopez asked.
“We'll save four pieces for you!” said David.
“Thank you.”
