Chapter 1 The New School
It was a Monday in November.Jay and his mother drove to a yellow brick building.The building had a sign in front that said "Rosewood Middle School."
The building was a lot bigger than Jay's old school.Jay's mother filled out many forms.Before they left, the school principal, Ms. Tucker, came out of her office.She shook Jay's hand. "Welcome to Rosewood," Ms. Tucker said. "We'll see you tomorrow."
The next day, Jay's older sister, Eva, drove Jay to school."Are you nervous?" Eva asked."Yes. I hate being the new kid," Jay said. He was unhappy.
Eva chuckled. "You'll feel better after you meet kids and make new friends," she said.
Eva watched Jay join the crowd of students outside the school.Then she drove toward the high school.
"Jay," someone said. Jay turned around very fast.He bumped into another, bigger student, and the boy fell down.
"I'm sorry," Jay said, but the boy didn't say anything.The boy stood up and walked away. Jay looked around.The kid who had said his name was talking to someone else.
