Chapter 1 Just in Time!
"You're doing very well, class," said Ms. Tallant.
The second-graders were working on a mural.It was a picture of their town, Greenville.
Each group was painting a panel.Each panel was put up on the wall as it was finished.Their town was all around their classroom!
Chenoa was working hard to finish her part of the panel.She carefully painted the park, her favorite part of town.She put herself in the picture with her dog, Bly.
The bell rang. Everyone, except Chenoa, packed up for recess.
"It's recess, Chenoa," said Ms. Tallant."You need to get some fresh air."
"Could I please keep painting?" asked Chenoa."I want to finish it for Grandparents' Day tomorrow."
"Of course you can," said Ms. Tallant. "I'll stay, too."
Ms. Tallant stuck the finished panels up on the wall.
Only Chenoa's part was missing.Then, just as the bell rang for the end of recess, she put down her brush.
"Just in time!" she whispered.
Chapter 2 Grandparents' Day
Everyone was very excited about Grandparents' Day.There were special displays in every classroom.There were snacks in the hallway, where the school band was playing.
Chenoa had some juice and listened to the band.She was waiting for her grandfather.Then she saw him waving in the doorway.
Chenoa grabbed her grandfather's hand.
"Come and see our mural!" she said, leading him to the classroom.
"Which bit is yours?" Grandfather asked.
"Here I am, Grandfather," Chenoa said, pointing.
"That's you and Bly! I didn't know you were such a good painter," said Grandfather."And the park looks great."
