Chapter 1 Shawn’s Gigantic Bike
It was early Saturday morning.
Shawn was trying to ride his new bike.
Shawn's first ride early yesterday morning had not gone very well.
He ended up falling off and hurting himself.
"Come on, Shawn.
Follow me," said Dora, Shawn's older sister.
Dora had taught Shawn how to ride his first bike.
But Shawn would not take his feet off the ground.
The bike seemed gigantic to Shawn.
He felt small sitting on it and even smaller since he fell off it this morning.
Mom saw that Shawn was upset.
She said, "I'll help.
I will run along and hold the bike."
Shawn started to pedal down the street.
Suddenly, the bike picked up speed.
Shawn lifted his feet.
Then he slammed on the brakes.
Mom caught him just before he fell again.
"That's it," said Shawn.
"Nothing can help me.
I thought I could ride this bike, but I can't."
Chapter 2 Dan Helps
Soon, Shawn's friend Dan came along.
Shawn told Dan about his problem riding his new bike.
"I know what will help.
But first I have to get something," Dan said, smiling as he walked away.
In a few minutes, Dan came back with his bike and helmet.
He had a shopping bag, too.
Inside there were knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards.
Dan told Shawn to put them all on.
"I also grabbed the leg pads that I use for soccer and my shoulder pads from football," said Dan.
"Oh, I almost forgot. Here is a mouth guard, too."
