Chapter 1 A Welcome Feast

Mrs. Periwinkle's country store stood at the end of Cherry Blossom Street. It was most famous for the beautiful wool things she sold there. Many people who live in the country love to wear wool on cool nights.

If you were to snoop around the store, you would see Mrs. Periwinkle scrubbing, sweeping, or knitting.

One morning Mrs. Periwinkle was dusting and fussing even more than usual. Her new helper was about to arrive at the store.

Clip-clop-trip-trop went the sound of hooves up the pebbled path.

"She's here!" said Mrs. Periwinkle. She hung up her duster and flung open the front door. She ran down the path, happy to meet Angora.

"Welcome, Angora," said Mrs. Periwinkle. "Come inside."

Angora squeezed her suitcase through the front door.

Inside Mrs. Periwinkles store, she saw coarse wool rugs, hats, and socks for sale.

"I'll put your suitcase in your room," said Mrs. Periwinkle."Make yourself at home."

"Oh, I will!" said Angora, looking at the tasty knitted wool. Her mouth watered.

First, Angora munched on a pair of bright socks.Next, she nibbled on wool rugs. She chomped on hats and chewed on caps.As Angora slurped down the last thread, Mrs. Periwinkle returned.

"Angora!" cried Mrs. Periwinkle."My beautiful knitted things are for wearing, not for eating."

"But they are so yummy!" said Angora.

Mrs. Periwinkle was furious."How am I going to open my store with nothing left to sell? You are here to add to the store, not eat it!"

Chapter 2 A Good Question

Angora didn't know what to do.What could she add to the store?

Angora hung her head and went out the back door.

She sat in the grass and thought sadly, "What good is a goat?"

In front of her, a cow moved slowly. It was eating the sweet grass. A sheep followed. It was nibbling at clover patches.A hen clucked and plucked at fat worms. As Angora watched them, she had an idea.

She would ask the animals how they added to Mrs. Periwinkle's store.

"Excuse me," said Angora. "I'm new here.Do you give Mrs. Periwinkle anything to sell in her store?"

The cow chewed slowly. It was thinking. But Angora was impatient."I demand to know, what good is a cow?"

"I am moo-marvelous," said the cow,"I give my milk every morning for Mrs. Periwinkle's famous thick milkshakes."

"Sounds yummy," said Angora. "May I try some?"
