“May I have your attention, please. Here is Mrs. Ortiz, who will tell you all about science camp,” said Mr. Fong.Dora and her friends quickly stopped talking. They were happy to finally hear about science camp.

“My name is Mrs. Ortiz, and I am here to talk about science camp.At camp you'll learn about plants and animals, do experiments, and go swimming. At night we'll toast marshmallows and tell stories around a campfire.”

“That sounds great!” everyone cheered. Then Mrs. Ortiz showed slides of camp and asked for questions. Some children raised their hands.

“Do we have to take our own food or is there a cafeteria?” asked Dora.

“Will we sleep in beds or on the ground in sleeping bags?” asked Eric.

“What should we pack?” asked Daisy.

Mrs. Ortiz answered the questions and handed out papers.“Don't forget to tell your parents about science camp,” she said.“They can learn more about it by reading these papers. And tell them that I will have a meeting to talk to them about camp.”

As the students were leaving, Dora talked to Mrs. Ortiz by herself. She had a very important question to ask her.

“Do we have to sleep over at science camp?Mrs. Ortiz said that all children spend the night at science camp, and Dora got worried.

All the way home from school, Dora wondered whether she should tell her parents about the trip. She knew that she would have fun learning about plants and animals and going swimming. She would like to toast marshmallows and tell stories around the campfire, too.In fact, she loved everything about going to camp.

But camp was far away, and she had never spent the night away from home, except with her cousins! She was afraid that her parents would not let her go to camp because she'd be sleeping over with kids from school. She didn't know what to do!

That evening Dora showed her parents and her grandfather the papers that Mrs. Ortiz had given her, even though she was still afraid that her parents would say no.She told them everything about camp, even the part about staying overnight.

“This sounds interesting, but it is far away!” said Dad.

“It does sound like fun, but I'm not sure I want Dora sleeping away from home without her family,” added Mom.“What do you think?” she said, looking at Grandpa.

“Don't decide right now,” said Grandpa.“Wait until after the parent meeting to talk more about it.”
