Brett walked home from school. He was happy.His birthday was tomorrow, and he was curious about what would happen.Every year he played a game called "Solve the Mystery."Brett's mom and dad planned the whole thing.They always made it fun. They left clues around the house.
Brett was almost home. He stopped by a tree near his house.He frequently stopped there. A bird's nest was in the tree. Brett liked to watch the birds.
Brett needed to get home soon to start his school assignments.He turned to walk away. But he stopped when he saw something near the tree.
Brett bent down. He picked up a small black case he saw on the ground and opened it.Inside the case was a pair of glasses with a gold frame.On the cover of the case were the words "The Eye Doc on Main Street."Brett knew the street well. There were several doctors on Main Street.
Brett looked at the glasses. Then he looked around for the owner.No one was nearby. He didn't want to leave the glasses, but should he take them?His mind ranged over different ideas. Then he decided.He looked at his watch. "I have time," he said to himself.
Brett walked to Main Street. He would visit The Eye Doc.Maybe he could find out who owned the glasses.
Chapter 2 Using the Clues
Brett arrived at The Eye Doc and went into the office.Doctor Alan was there. "How may I help you?" Doctor Alan asked.
Brett showed Doctor Alan the glasses. "Someone lost these," Brett said. "Do you know who?"
Doctor Alan looked at the glasses. "I'm not sure," he said.He went to his computer and looked through his records.The glasses did not match any name there.
